Our Story

Custom Accounting was founded in 2008 by Tricia Brown with a simple vision: to offer trusted, people-first accounting support to businesses that care about doing things right. What started as a small firm with big heart has grown into a full-service financial partner, now offering strategic Fractional CFO and advisory services to clients across Saskatchewan and beyond.

With deep industry experience and a commitment to care, we’ve built a team that values relationships as much as results. Today, alongside co-leader John Xue, we’re proud to support business owners through every season, bringing clarity, confidence, and strategy to the table.

Founder & Partner

Tricia Brown

Tricia Brown founded Custom Accounting in 2008 with a vision to create something different, a firm rooted in care, integrity, and long-term impact. With over 20 years of experience serving small and mid-sized businesses across industries, Tricia brings a rare blend of technical expertise and deep client empathy to every relationship.

Her leadership has guided Custom Accounting from its early days as a local bookkeeping firm to a full-service financial partner offering tax, advisory, and Virtual CFO solutions. Known for her hands-on approach and sharp business acumen, Tricia is passionate about helping entrepreneurs make confident, well-informed decisions that support sustainable growth.

Beyond the spreadsheets, Tricia is a relationship-builder, mentor, and advocate for doing business the right way, with heart.

John Xue CPA, MBA

John Xue joined the leadership team at Custom Accounting in 2024, bringing over 15 years of experience in finance, accounting, and ERP implementation across some of Saskatchewan’s most complex industries. With a career spanning manufacturing, mining, and agriculture, John has held key roles at Brandt, Western Potash, Yara, and Elections Saskatchewan, shaping strategy, streamlining systems, and driving meaningful financial transformation.

At Custom Accounting, John leads our growing CFO & Advisory division, helping clients move beyond compliance into clarity, confidence, and sustainable growth. From budgeting and forecasting to process automation and ERP selection, John’s approach is both strategic and deeply operational. He doesn’t just give advice; he rolls up his sleeves to help businesses run smarter.
